OregonLive.com has an awesome spoiler-less preview to Wall-E! A poster there reportedly saw Pixar's next film at the Lloyd Center - along with John Lasseter!

Here's the scoop:

Monday evening a few friends and I saw what I presume was one of the first test screenings of Wall-E at the Lloyd Center. John Lassater was sitting behind us.

Pixar has done it again. I never saw Cars, didn't have much interest, yet I feel I should now see it at least once. Ratatouille was simply lovely and Wall-E is just as good if not better in it's own special way.

Wall-E has a much darker tone than any other Pixar film thus far. People complained about this aspect in the focus group (see morons!), but I think they were failing to see that the tone was very much intentional and serves the story and the final outcome.

The film is nearly dialog free for the first half, and the first 30 to 45 minutes is just spectacular. There is no dialog, just simple actions and character's expressions of Wall-E, the cockroach Hal, and this robot that appears named EVE.

To go into the details of the story would ruin some of the enjoyment, but for a film that was roughly 80% complete with a plethora of storyboards and partially completed animation throughout, I was completely immersed!

As the film was a work in progress the score was a temp track amalgam of John William's scores including some Star Wars cues (very subtle, discrete ones), some Superman music, music from Star Trek 2, Punch Drunk-Love(!!!), Brazil, and a few other films, but it worked so brilliantly I would almost rather see the film released that way, despite the inability to do so. I believe there were even a few bits and pieces of Gabriel Yared's score from the Lives of Others.

Ultimately this film is a very large step in direction towards animated features that are geared towards both children and adults and further raising the standard of quality Pixar films that much higher above the competition. There are no 'it' celebs of the moment in the film, nor a catchy pop song on the soundtrack as you would expect from Pixar, just quality storytelling.

What if mankind had to leave Earth, and
somebody forgot to turn the last robot off?

Garlin to voice "Captain" in WALL•E!

Moviehole.net has a great interview with Jeff Garlin! In the interview Jeff talk about his work that he is doing on WALL•E right now...

Now, I’m sure audiences are particularly excited about the fact that you’re in this highly anticipated Wall-E.

Jeff: Oh how do you know that?

Well because I know everything.

Jeff: You do know everything. That’s been on the QT. As a matter of fact you’re the first person who’s asked me about that. I recorded a lot of it already. I’ve got more stuff to do. But I can tell you … what can I tell you about it? It’s sort of like a – well if I could compare it to anything I’d say if Buster Keaton made an outer space cartoon … that’s what the movie is. It’s like a science fiction Buster Keaton kind of movie.

How are you at doing voice work and how …

Jeff: The voice I do in this movie is my own voice.

And you play the Captain …

Jeff: How do you know this!?

I tell you I …

Jeff: OK yes I play the Captain and it’s pretty much my own voice. And the character looks a lot like me. made it – in the movie I’m the only animated character that speaks.

Because a lot of the film is silent right?

Jeff: Yeah a lot of the film is silent and they’re robots so they make noises and such and there’s sound but I’m one of the only characters that speak – not one of them – I am the only animated character that speaks. There’s another character but I can’t talk about it. But I’m the only animated character that speaks.

What was it like working with Andrew Stanton?

Jeff: I have to say, just like working with Larry David or Eddie Murphy, I put him in that class. He’s really special, he’s pretty – I guess the term would be ‘immensely talented’.

So Jeff Garlin will be the voice of the only animated character to speak in WALL•E. Not mentioned in that piece of the interview is that the non-animated characters who speak are to be played by Barbra Streisand and Fred Willard.

Film Stew sat down with comedian Jeff Garlin to talk about Disney/Pixar's Wall-E! Here is the interview:

“Almost all of Pixar’s movies are works of art,” Garlin suggests during a one-on-one interview with FilmStew. “Their only concern is the story; they are obsessed with story. With all that money at stake, and going for a mass audience, I think Pixar for the most part makes the only brilliant movies that we have now.”

“When I say brilliant, to me what brilliant is… Like I don’t think Curb Your Enthusiasm is brilliant,” he continues. “It borders on greatness, but it’s not brilliant, and here’s why. Dumb people cannot enjoy Curb Your Enthusiasm for the most part. Pixar movies, the smartest person in the room and the dumbest person in the room will both get something from it. You cannot say that about a lot of modern things. So to me, that’s what’s brilliant.”

Jim Reardon - Animator on Wall-E!

Bill on Pixar Planet says The Simpsons 10th Season DVD commentary reveals Jim Reardon will be a animator on Pixar's Wall-E!

Previously he was believed to be director for a Pixar film in 2008.

My guess is with his experience, he'll be a supervising animator.

WALL•E is a film by Pixar Animation Studios. The film, which has a robot as its title character, will be released on June 27, 2008. The film is being directed by Andrew Stanton, whose previous film Finding Nemo won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Jim Morris, who previously worked for Lucasfilm, will be the producer. And according to Time, Lucasfilm sound designer, Ben Burtt, will electronically voice the main character.Fred Willard has also been confirmed as the President of the BuyNLarge Corporation.

John Lasseter's presentation to Disney corporate investors:

"WALL•E is the story about the last little robot on Earth. He is a robot that his programming was to help clean up. You see, it's set way in the future. Through consumerism, rampant, unchecked consumerism, the Earth was covered with trash. And to clean up, everyone had to leave Earth and set in place millions of these little robots that went around to clean up the trash and make Earth habitable again.

Well, the cleanup program failed with the exception of this one little robot and he's left on Earth doing his duty all alone. But it's not a story about science fiction. It's a love story, because, you see, WALL•E falls in love with [Eve], a robot from a probe that comes down to check on Earth, and she's left there to check on and see how things are going and he absolutely falls in love with her."

The teaser trailer for WALL•E debuted with the theatrical release of its immediate predecessor, Ratatouille. It begins with an introduction by director Andrew Stanton saying in the summer of 1994 there was a lunch where he, John Lasseter, Pete Docter, and the late Joe Ranft talked about the films that would follow the almost-complete Toy Story. Their ideas evolved into A Bug's Life, Monsters, Inc., and Finding Nemo. WALL•E was their last discussion that day, and then the teaser begins.

The tag line the teaser trailer is "After 700 years of doing what he was built for — He'll discover what he was meant for."

A fake commercial based on the film is included in the Ratatouille video game. It shows that WALL•E stands for Waste Allocation Load Lifter - Earth-class. and is sold by a fictional company called Buy and Large Corporation (Buy N Large). The catch phrase is Working to dig you out. There is a 'disclaimer' at the end that mentions www.buynlarge.com a web site for the fictional company featured in the movie.

On Saturday, July 28 at 2:15 - 4:00 pm, Hall H. Disney—Disney and Disney-Pixar showcase two upcoming films with this exclusive Comic-Con presentation! First they will present The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, and then they will show WALL-E, from Academy Award–winning director Andrew Stanton (Director of Finding Nemo), WALL-E is the story of one robot’s comic adventures as he chases his dream across the galaxy. Meet director Andrew Stanton and sound designer Ben Burtt (Star Wars) as they present a first look at Disney·Pixar’s next animated adventure!
